Teacher's job on the line for slapping student

Pat Frost says she was defending herself from a student who refused to give her his name after a confrontation in which she asked him to pull up his saggy pants.

No surprise to me here.  Most of the time accusations like this are made against teachers by students who chronically break the rules.  I suppose they feel like they have to "push back."

Pat Doube is now working at a fish factory thanks to false allegations from the child of Lisa Karl.  The parent claimed that Mrs Doube taped the child's mouth shut with tape for talking too much. She was later exonerated by the authorities but has been unable to find a job in teaching.

Larry Vanderberg passes away while in prison

Larry passed away in February and a memorial slide show was put up last week.  The poor man paid the ultimate price and his family fared little better.  Rest in peace amigo.

Donald Switzer took the stand in his own defense.  He is accused of groping a student who was held after Spanish class to finish an assignment.

I had a student get back at me for keeping her after class. It was ok for her to disrupt class and not do her work.  My sin was keeping her for 5 minutes during lunch to get her started.  The following day she said she'd had a panic attack that I ignored. Things are really starting to look like a witch hunt when a man gives a nudge on the chest to some laggard and ends up in court fighting for his name and freedom.

Ferris High School coach Don Van Lierop was falsely accused of rape by a mother and daughter who went to the police.  Allegedly, the mother was hoping for some revenge.  No charges will be pressed by the police.

A district has decided not to renew the contract for Bryce Benekos, a teacher and coach in Burleson, Tx.

He was on his honeymoon while a female student alleges he was contacting her on skype. Sorry Bryce, you don't get the benefit of the doubt from these people.  But maybe it's better to be pushed out of the shark tank early, rather than find out how corrupt it is, down the road.

How did they do it?   The easiest way was to accuse the teacher of looking at them in a sexual way.  Rather than go to the teacher, the parents would call in and complain.  This bypassed the normal route.  Naturally, there was no way to prove things one way or another, leaving the teacher with a stain a doubt on their reputation and helping create a little feeding frenzy.  But there were also accusations of using physical force, yelling at them....making them feel BAD about themselves.  

Some of these students are presently going after their principal, due to everything but academics.  Let's see....the football team ,  the colors of the school uniform, and the flubbed jr. prom.  See the http://dixonpatch.com for more.

Why do this? You put the entire careers of educators in the hands of a few vindictive kids or opportunistic administrators.  So much for the bill of rights which supposedly covers you at work as well as outside of it.

I know there are pedophiles out there, but did it occur to these people pointing fingers, that the teacher was saying that her outfit was not appropriate for gym class, rather than trying to pick her up?  This is the insult to injury stuff perpetuated by the lowest common denominator that get my ire.

What? A teacher with student boarder who's NOT a pedophile?

It is a sorry state of affairs when a relationship between student and teacher that goes beyond the usual is tainted by doubt and suspicion.  We have become so used to the idea of seeing human relationships in terms of same aged peer to peer, that the idea that, say, a middle aged female teacher might become fond of a teen aged boy, seems suspect.  That is a shame.  This is where I have a problem with school culture at its roots.  Teachers are expected to keep a social distance in order to do their jobs and that is understandable within the contemporary context.  Why?  Because having 30 students at a time who are mandated to be in school as we know it, means that signs of familiarity could hinder getting them to do what they might not care to partake in. That's one reason your typical usmc sargeant is not Mr. Rogers. SCHOOL IS NOT A NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. I could explain why but I presume most thinking people see this as somewhat obvious. But I digress.  This particular teacher was kind enough to let a student stay in her home, but ended up resigning and having her name put on the sex offender registry once the authorities found out.  The story states that she was able to get it removed.
